Following the successful completion and publication of Project “The Day of the President” http://www.ifip.or.at/secretariat/pres_comb.pdf we were asked “What Next?”
Our answer was to take The Delivery Co. series of interviews to the “IFIP Engine Room”, to borrow a term used by a past president. By bringing the interviews to IFIP’s Technical Committees we aimed to organize a project similar to “The Day of the President” with a working title — “Visions from the IT Engine Room”.
In July 2002 we wrote to all our TC Chairs explaining our intentions and stressing that this project would contribute to a better understanding of the TCs, their activities, challenges, successes in recent years and developments/trends that could be expected in future.
The TC Chairs were requested to respond to the following questions:
1. In your opinion, which are the most significant developments and activities of your TC since its foundation?
2. Are there any current technical activities within the scope of your TC, which you feel could have a significant societal/economic impact in future?
3. Are there any specific technical issues you find important for IFIP as a whole to address?
Additionally they were asked to share some words about their professional occupation, personal projects and hobbies. All TC Chairs supported the idea and confirmed their participation. The interviews will be posted on this page as they come. When the project is completed we will produce an integrated account.
